Who is this course for and Why should I do it?
This course is suitable for any staff member who is dealing with patient queries on a daily basis.
The significance of non-clinical triage training for all staff members, especially medical receptionists, is crucial. It ensures the effective management of patient鈥檚 needs, the ability to prioritise cases and provide appropriate support which contributes significantly to the smooth functioning of healthcare services.
Non-clinical ensures the effective management of patient鈥檚 needs, the ability to prioritise cases and provide appropriate support which contributes significantly to the smooth functioning of healthcare services.
It is recommended to have a formal policy in every practice, addressing how staff are expected to respond to requests from patients by phone for emergency or urgent appointments. A robust policy can assist in giving the authority and the confidence to non-clinical staff members to call an ambulance, if necessary, if a clinical member of the team was not on the premises.
Ongoing training helps remove uncertainty and helps equip staff members with the skills to analyse the level of urgency presented. Every practice has busy hours throughout the day, there may be unscheduled sick leave or staff members on maternity leave at the same time, necessitating temporary staff covering reception. A printed guide can be invaluable as emergencies can happen at the most inopportune times. Information on the policy should be available to patients and other key stakeholders.
